China Drone Show Fire in Liuyang Sparks Panic No Injuries Reported

China Drone Show Fire in Liuyang Sparks Panic No Injuries Reported

Post by : Rameen Ariff

A spectacular light and drone show in Liuyang city, China, turned into chaos after dozens of drones malfunctioned mid-air and caught fire, forcing thousands of spectators to run for safety. The frightening incident took place on October 2 during the much-anticipated event “October: The Sound of Blooming Flowers” at the Sky Theatre, which was designed to showcase a 3D visual performance over both land and water.

What was meant to be a dazzling evening quickly turned dangerous when multiple drones suddenly lost control, fell from the sky, and burst into flames. Eyewitness videos widely shared on social media captured the panic, showing people using chairs as shields to protect themselves from sparks, while others ran in fear as burning fragments rained down from above.

Local officials confirmed that despite the terrifying scenes, no injuries were reported. Emergency teams acted swiftly, establishing a one-mile evacuation zone and deploying additional firefighting units around the venue as a precautionary step.

Authorities in Liuyang suggested that unusually dry weather conditions may have played a role in the drone show malfunction. The city’s Bureau of Culture and Tourism has launched an investigation to identify the exact cause and to ensure that such accidents can be prevented during future large-scale pyrotechnic and drone events.

Liuyang, located in Hunan Province, is world-renowned as the “fireworks capital of China.” The city regularly hosts grand pyrotechnic shows, drawing massive crowds from across the country and abroad. Earlier this year, over 160,000 people gathered in Liuyang to celebrate the New Year with fireworks and drone displays.

This latest incident, while resulting in no casualties, has sparked serious discussions about the safety and regulation of large-scale fireworks and drone shows. Experts believe stricter monitoring, improved technology, and weather checks will be crucial for future events to avoid similar dangerous situations.
