Three Indian-origin truck drivers have been arrested by Canadian police following a violent shootout between rival tow-truck groups in the city of Brampton. The incident, which was captured on video and later released by police, has sparked serious concern over escalating violence linked to tow-truck disputes in Canada. Authorities have confirmed that the search is still ongoing for a fourth suspect who remains absconding.
The shooting incident took place on the night of October 7 at around 10:45 pm local time in a parking lot near the intersection of McVean Drive and Castlemore Road. According to police officials, two rival tow-truck groups came face to face, leading to a heated confrontation that quickly turned violent. During the altercation, multiple gunshots were fired, creating panic in the area. One individual sustained injuries in the shooting, although police said the injuries were not life-threatening.
After weeks of investigation, police identified three suspects connected to one of the groups involved in the shootout. On November 20, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at a residence in Caledon, where the suspects were located and taken into custody. The arrested individuals have been identified as Manjot Bhatti, Navjot Bhatti, and Amanjot Bhatti. Police confirmed that a fourth suspect, believed to be the person seen firing the gun in the video, has not yet been identified or arrested.
Investigators stated that Manjot Bhatti is facing multiple serious charges, including intentional reckless discharge of a firearm, possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, careless storage of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, and knowingly being present in a vehicle containing an illegal firearm. His case is currently before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton. Police confirmed that Manjot has been released on bail, with his bail hearing pending.
Navjot Bhatti and Amanjot Bhatti have been charged with travelling in a vehicle while being aware that a firearm was present inside. Both individuals were released on an undertaking and are required to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton at a later date, police officials said.
Peel Regional Police continue to search for the fourth suspect, who was seen in the video firing the gun during the shootout. He has been described as a South Asian male wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, and white running shoes at the time of the incident. Authorities have urged anyone with information related to the suspect or the shooting to come forward as the investigation remains active.
The case has once again highlighted growing concerns around tow-truck violence in Canada, with police stressing that such incidents pose a serious threat to public safety. Officials say further arrests are possible as the investigation progresses.
