Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni have officially settled their long-running legal dispute connected to the film It Ends with Us. The settlement was announced on Monday, bringing an end to a highly publicised case that had attracted major attention across Hollywood and social media platforms over the past several years.
The legal conflict began after Blake Lively accused Baldoni, who also directed the film, of inappropriate behaviour during the production process. According to the original complaint, Lively alleged that Baldoni made uncomfortable comments regarding his personal sex life and attempted to add intimate scenes that were not included in the original script or approved during production discussions.
The complaint also included allegations against producer Jamey Heath. Lively claimed that Heath watched her while she was topless during filming despite being asked to look away. The lawsuit further accused Baldoni of leading a public relations campaign intended to damage Lively’s reputation after tensions developed behind the scenes during the making of the film.
A joint statement released by lawyers representing both parties confirmed that the dispute had been resolved privately. However, no financial details or settlement amount were disclosed publicly. Attorneys for both Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni stated that all parties hoped the agreement would help bring closure and allow everyone involved to move forward peacefully and professionally.
The statement also noted that the movie itself remains a source of pride for the people who worked on the project. Legal representatives acknowledged that the production process presented challenges and stated that concerns raised by Blake Lively deserved to be heard seriously. The agreement effectively ends what could have become a lengthy and expensive civil court trial.
Following news of the settlement, Blake Lively made a surprise appearance at the Met Gala in New York City. She appeared smiling on the red carpet wearing a dramatic ball gown featuring large layers of pink, purple and yellow tulle. Her appearance quickly became one of the most discussed celebrity moments of the evening.
Earlier in the legal battle, Baldoni and production company Wayfarer had filed counterclaims against Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds. Those claims included allegations of extortion and defamation. However, a judge later dismissed the countersuit, reducing the scope of the overall case before the recent settlement agreement was reached.
Although some of Lively’s claims were previously dismissed in court, the judge allowed allegations connected to retaliation to continue toward trial. That trial had been scheduled to begin on May 18 before the parties agreed to settle the dispute privately. The decision to avoid trial likely prevented further public legal battles and media attention surrounding the production.
It Ends with Us, based on the bestselling novel by Colleen Hoover, became one of the biggest box office successes of 2024. The film reportedly earned more than US$350 million worldwide and attracted a large global audience. Despite the controversy surrounding its production, the movie remains highly popular among fans and continues to be widely discussed within the entertainment industry.
