Ben Sasse Reveals Battle with Stage-Four Pancreatic Cancer

Ben Sasse Reveals Battle with Stage-Four Pancreatic Cancer

Post by : Meena Ariff

Ben Sasse, the ex-U.S. senator from Nebraska who served from 2015 to 2023, has announced that he is battling stage-four metastatic pancreatic cancer. In an emotional message shared on social media, Sasse referred to his diagnosis as a "death sentence" but expressed an unwavering commitment to confront the disease head-on.

At 53, Sasse has established himself as a principled leader. During his Senate tenure, he was among just seven Republicans to support the impeachment of former President Donald Trump after the January 6 Capitol events. He has consistently emphasized the importance of Congress maintaining integrity and holding the executive branch accountable, insisting that “some lines cannot be crossed.”

Educated at Harvard and Yale, Sasse's career extends beyond politics. After his Senate service, he assumed the presidency of the University of Florida, a role he left in July 2024 to attend to his wife’s recent health issues following a stroke. The couple shares three children.

Sasse chose to reveal his cancer diagnosis during the Advent season, a period of reflection for Christians preparing for Christmas. With a focus on his faith, he remarked, “I’m not going down without a fight.”

In addition to his health challenges, Sasse has encountered scrutiny regarding his spending as university president. A review by the Florida Auditor General indicated potential misuse of university funds, claims he has firmly denied.

As he faces this significant health challenge, Sasse’s narrative emphasizes both his faith and resilience. His candid approach to sharing his diagnosis has garnered wide attention and support.
