Bangladesh Journalists Rescued After Protesters Set Office on Fire

A violent protest in Bangladesh turned dangerous on December 19, 2025, after angry protesters attacked and set fire to newspaper offices in the capital city.

The protest started after the death of a 32-year-old youth leader, Sharif Osman Hadi. His supporters gathered in large numbers to protest in the city. What began as shouting and slogans soon turned into violence.

Offices Attacked and Set on Fire

The crowd first reached the office of a popular Bengali newspaper late at night. Protesters damaged the building and then set it on fire around midnight.

After this, the same group moved toward another major newspaper office located in Karwan Bazar. A warning phone call was made to journalists inside, saying a large crowd was coming.

Before the staff could escape safely, the protesters broke into the building, damaged the ground floor and first floor, and then set the building on fire.

Journalists Trapped Inside

Journalists working the night shift were trapped inside the burning building. Thick smoke filled the rooms, making it hard to breathe.

One journalist posted online saying she could not breathe and that smoke was everywhere. She pleaded for help, saying her life was in danger.

To save themselves, the journalists moved to the terrace of the building and waited there for help while the fire continued below.

Rescue Operation After Hours

The fire was brought under control around 2 am, but the situation remained dangerous. The crowd outside continued to behave violently, making rescue difficult.

After nearly four hours, security forces and firefighters managed to rescue around 25 to 30 journalists and move them to a safe place.

Later, one staff member confirmed that all journalists were safely evacuated and thanked the rescue teams for their bravery and quick action.

The Bangladesh journalists rescued operation prevented a major tragedy and saved many lives.

Army Deployed for Safety

After the incident, army personnel were deployed outside the damaged building to control the situation and prevent further violence.

During the chaos, a senior editor was also attacked by the mob. Videos from the scene showed people pulling his hair and beating him, adding to the shock and fear.

Reason for Attack Still Unclear

It is still not clear why these newspaper offices were targeted. Both papers were known for their calm and neutral reporting. Authorities are expected to investigate the attack.

The Bangladesh journalists rescued incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of media workers in the country.

This violent night has left many shaken and worried, especially journalists who risk their lives to report the truth.
