Anthony Edwards delivered a brilliant performance to help the Minnesota Timberwolves defeat the San Antonio Spurs 114-109 in Game 4 of their second-round NBA playoff series on Sunday night. The victory allowed Minnesota to level the series at 2-2 after a dramatic contest that also saw Spurs star Victor Wembanyama ejected early in the game following a Flagrant 2 foul.
Edwards finished the game with 36 points, including 16 crucial points in the fourth quarter. The young Timberwolves star stepped up during the most important moments of the game and energized both his teammates and the home crowd inside Target Center. His long-range three-pointers and aggressive attacking play helped Minnesota recover from several difficult stretches and finally take control late in the fourth quarter.
The biggest turning point came early in the second quarter when Wembanyama was ejected after hitting Naz Reid with an elbow to the neck during a frustrating sequence. Officials reviewed the play and upgraded the foul to a Flagrant 2, which resulted in the automatic ejection of the Spurs superstar. The crowd erupted as Wembanyama walked off the court, while Minnesota hoped to take advantage of San Antonio losing its most important player.
Despite losing Wembanyama, the Spurs continued to fight strongly throughout the game. De'Aaron Fox and Dylan Harper each scored 24 points, while Stephon Castle added 20 points for San Antonio. The Spurs guards kept attacking the Timberwolves defense with confident mid-range shooting and aggressive drives to the basket. Their effort allowed San Antonio to remain competitive until the final moments of the game.
Minnesota’s supporting players also made important contributions. Naz Reid scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds despite taking the painful elbow from Wembanyama earlier in the game. Rudy Gobert added 11 points and 13 rebounds while providing key defensive plays late in the fourth quarter. Julius Randle and Ayo Dosunmu also made valuable plays during the closing minutes as the Timberwolves held on under pressure.
The Timberwolves struggled at times during the game and nearly lost control after several turnovers in the third quarter. San Antonio even built an eight-point lead early in the fourth quarter after a three-pointer from Fox. However, Edwards once again delivered in clutch moments by hitting difficult shots and motivating the crowd. Minnesota slowly regained momentum and closed the game with strong defense and smart ball movement.
The playoff series is now tied at two games each, with Game 5 scheduled to take place in San Antonio on Tuesday night. Much attention will now focus on Wembanyama’s status as the NBA reviews the Flagrant 2 foul and considers whether additional disciplinary action will be taken. The series has become one of the most exciting matchups of the NBA playoffs, with both teams showing strong determination and competitive spirit.
