The Air India group, including its low-cost arm Air India Express, is set to operate 22 flights to West Asia today despite ongoing geopolitical tensions affecting aviation across the region. Airlines are adjusting operations to maintain connectivity between India and key Gulf destinations, even as risks linked to the West Asia conflict persist. Both scheduled and special flights are being deployed to meet rising passenger demand and urgent travel requirements.
Over the past few weeks, Air India has been continuously modifying its flight schedules based on airspace availability, safety conditions, and regulatory approvals. Earlier in March, the airline operated between 58 and 80 flights on different days, reflecting the dynamic nature of the situation. Demand has surged, particularly from Indian workers returning to Gulf countries like the UAE, which has also resulted in a noticeable increase in airfares on major routes.
However, airlines are facing multiple operational challenges, including rising aviation fuel costs due to global instability, restricted airspace requiring rerouting, and safety concerns amid ongoing military activity. These factors have impacted global aviation, forcing airlines to adjust schedules and introduce fare changes to manage increased costs.
Despite these challenges, Air India continues operations with strict safety checks and necessary permissions. Maintaining connectivity with West Asia remains strategically important for India due to its large diaspora, strong trade relations, and energy dependence on the region. The continued flights reflect efforts to ensure mobility, economic stability, and support for Indian citizens abroad during uncertain times.
