Floods Kill 45 in Afghanistan and Pakistan

Floods Kill 45 in Afghanistan and Pakistan

Post by : Shakul

At least 45 people have been killed across Afghanistan and Pakistan after days of heavy rainfall triggered severe floods and landslides, according to officials. The extreme weather has caused widespread destruction, leaving hundreds injured and thousands affected.

Authorities from Afghanistan’s National Disaster Management Authority reported that at least 28 people lost their lives in Afghanistan, with 49 injured and more than 100 homes destroyed. The worst-hit areas include central and eastern provinces such as Parwan, Maidan Wardak, Daikundi and Logar, where unstable weather conditions continue to pose a risk of further flooding.

In Pakistan, at least 17 people were killed and 56 others injured in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which borders Afghanistan. Officials from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority confirmed that heavy rains led to house collapses and flash floods, particularly in vulnerable districts like Bannu.

The disaster has impacted more than 1,100 families in Afghanistan alone, with incidents including deaths caused by lightning strikes and drowning in floodwaters. In some areas, children and women were among the victims after roofs collapsed due to continuous rainfall. Several highways were also shut down due to landslides, disrupting transportation and rescue operations.

Experts warn that Afghanistan remains highly vulnerable to extreme weather due to fragile infrastructure and frequent climate-related disasters. With more rain and storms forecast in the coming days, authorities have urged residents to avoid rivers and flooded areas and follow safety advisories, as the region faces an ongoing risk of further devastation.
