Afghanistan Faces More Harsh Weather After Deaths

Afghanistan Faces More Harsh Weather After Deaths

Post by : Shakul

Afghanistan is facing worsening weather conditions after a series of natural disasters killed at least 148 people over the past two weeks. Authorities have warned that more severe weather could hit the region, increasing risks for already affected communities.

The crisis began in late March when heavy rainfall triggered widespread flooding across several provinces. Rivers overflowed, and water levels rose rapidly, inundating homes, farmland, and roads, particularly in rural and low-lying areas.

In mountainous regions, the situation has been even more severe, with landslides burying homes and cutting off access to remote villages. Rescue efforts have been challenging due to damaged roads and limited infrastructure, slowing down emergency response teams.

The situation was further worsened by a 5.9-magnitude earthquake that struck the Hindu Kush region, compounding the damage caused by floods and landslides. The combination of multiple disasters has placed immense pressure on already fragile communities.

Officials reported that more than 216 people have been injured, while several others remain missing. Over 1,100 homes have been destroyed, leaving thousands of families displaced and in urgent need of shelter, food, and medical assistance.

In addition to human casualties, critical infrastructure has been severely affected. Roads have been washed away, crops destroyed, and local economies disrupted, raising concerns about long-term food security and recovery.

Experts warn that Afghanistan remains highly vulnerable to extreme weather events due to its geography, climate conditions, and limited resources. Authorities and humanitarian agencies are now working to deliver aid and support, as fears grow over continued rainfall and the possibility of further disasters in the coming days.
