Abu Dhabi Hosts UAE’s First GKA Kite World Tour at Fahid Island

Abu Dhabi Hosts UAE’s First GKA Kite World Tour at Fahid Island

Post by : Rameen Ariff

Abu Dhabi is set to make history in the world of watersports as it prepares to host the UAE’s first-ever GKA Kite World Tour from 25 October to 2 November 2025 at the stunning Fahid Island. The Hydrofoil Big Air & Freestyle Kite World Cup will place the emirate firmly on the global adventure sports map, attracting fans, athletes, and tourists alike.

A Premier Global Sports Destination

Fahid Island, located between Yas Island and Saadiyat Island, is the UAE’s first Fitwel-certified island, designed for wellness, recreation, and sports. With 11km of coastline, 4.6km of pristine beaches, and a 2km pedestrian waterfront promenade, the island provides an ideal setting for international watersports competitions.

The Kite World Tour complements Abu Dhabi’s growing calendar of global sporting events, including the F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, NBA Abu Dhabi Games, UFC at Etihad Arena, and the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open, highlighting the city as a leading destination for lifestyle, adventure, and sports tourism.

Nine Days of Watersports Action

The event is the highlight of the Fahid Island Watersports Festival, which spans nine days. Alongside the Kite World Cup, the festival will feature the GWA Wingfoil World Tour season finale and the SFT Surf Foil World Tour championship, bringing top international athletes together in one spectacular location.

Organizers expect over 30,000 spectators to enjoy the competitions live. In addition to world-class sports, the festival offers watersports clinics, an athlete village, food and retail zones, live entertainment, and family-friendly activities, creating an unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages.

Elite Athletes Compete for Glory

Some of the world’s top watersports athletes will compete in the festival. In Hydrofoil Big Air, Hugo Wigglesworth (NZL) and Finn Flügel (GER) will showcase their skills, while Freestyle competitors Maxime Chabloz (SUI) and Bruna Kajiya (BRA) aim for victory. Wingfoil champions Nia Suardiaz (ESP) and Francesco Cappuzzo (ITA) are also set to perform, alongside rising stars like Lorenzo Casati (ITA) and Charles Brodel (FRA).

World-Class Facilities and Sustainable Design

Fahid Island is designed to support active lifestyles, wellness, and sustainability. Its safe and scenic environment allows for professional-level competitions while engaging the public through interactive programs. The festival blends elite sports with community participation, emphasizing Abu Dhabi’s commitment to promoting recreation, tourism, and sustainable development.

With the debut of the GKA Kite World Tour in the UAE, Abu Dhabi strengthens its position as a global watersports hub, offering a platform for athletes, fans, and the community to experience the very best of adventure sports.
